Bioceanic Bridge: finishing works advance between Carmelo Peralta and Porto Murtinho

Paraguay's Ministry of Public Works reported adjustment and finishing works on both banks of the Paraguay River. Construction is ongoing, with no opening date in the report.

On October 14, 2026, Paraguay's Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) reported further progress on the bridge that will link Carmelo Peralta, in the Alto Paraguay department, with Porto Murtinho in Brazil. On the Brazilian side, crews are re-tensioning the stay cables that hold the deck; on the Paraguayan side, they are casting concrete curbs, installing temporary structures to adjust the cables and laying electrical conduits under the access viaduct's bike lane.

The bridge will be 1,294 meters long, with a 632-meter cable-stayed section and a 350-meter main span designed to keep the river open to large vessels. According to MOPC, the investment is about USD 103 million (PYG 684.6 billion), funded with Paraguay’s share of Itaipú Binacional resources, and the builder is the PYBRA binational consortium.

The report gives neither an overall completion percentage nor an opening date. In August, the ministry announced the removal of the form travelers, marking the end of one of the main phases of the cable-stayed section.

What it means for investors

The bridge is the link that will connect Paraguay's Chaco region by road with the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul as part of the Bioceanic Corridor. Each completed stage reduces uncertainty about the region's future connectivity, a factor that matters when assessing industrial land, logistics assets or farmland in the Chaco.

Because construction is still underway, it is wise not to base a decision on an opening date that has not been confirmed. If you are looking at assets tied to the corridor, I can prepare an analysis with clear scenarios and assumptions.
